I‘ve joined GEC for a long time. I totally forgot when I joined this amazing organization. Last night, I was asked by Jackson that why I joined GEC. I said I forgot. Several seconds before, it suddenly came to me that it’s because I wanted to be a volunteer, doing something meaningful. But I hadn’t got anytime to take an action, although I had signed up for being a GEC volunteer for ages.

It’s my first time to take part in a GEC activity last evening, and the reason why I attend the activity is that I decided to overcome my phobia of public speaking. Ok, next, I will talk about what was going last evening.
We spent most of the time on the part of self-introduction. Jason led the group. Alex is an outgoing beautiful girl with big smile. She’s been a lot of place, and she was living in Japan for one year that she can speak Japanese. Alex’s friend next to her has a lot of hobbies including playing badminton and piano. (Sorry, I forgot her name sorry.) Seas is an IT guy working for Sony Ericsson, being a volunteer of GEC for a long time. Frank works hard on learning English as he may get a chance working in Kenya with high salary soon. Next to Frank, it’s me. My name is Penny. I currently work for a Canadian immigrant service program. And I have a part-time job. I assist primary school student finish their homework. Besides, if anyone wants to know more about international online dating or Chinese social work or psychology courses offered by training company, I can provide some information. The three girls sat near me are potential airline stewardesses with beautiful skins. One of them named Mathildas, a special name with difficult pronunciation. It impressed me. Finally, it’s Jason’s turn. Jackson started with saying that his name is Jackson is because his father is Jack. This made everyone laugh. And Seas continued the “joke” saying that then his son should be Season. Oh, it’s not a joke. We should be serious .Season, what a good name.
Finally we started the topic”Beida butcher”. The positive held the idea that every vocation is equal that it’s OK to be a butch with high degree. The negative insisted that it’s a pity or even a waste to be a butch after graduating from an excellent university or doing a high degree. There no winner I think. I left a little bit early. I noticed that positive are all girls and the negative side are all boys. The reason could be that males are too rational, while girls have smart right brain.

I really enjoyed. And I found that doing public speaking is not as horrible as I though. I plan to be a host of a GEC activity in the near future, to overcome my phobia.

Being brave is not that you do not feel any fear but that you feel the fear and you control it successfully.
